The Akhot’ah is the Quantar Council of High Priests (which are called “Qashish”). There are traditionally 12 seats on this council and they are held for life. When a seat is vacated, the entire body of Quantar Priests votes for the replacement.
Although The Akhot’ah are religious leaders, they clearly have political power, since Quantar is governed by the Qua’ it tahir (will of the people). Since Quantar is a deeply religious culture, the people are influenced by their Priests and High Priests.
