HSM Institute (now Sutonia College) was chartered in 28.4 AT by its founder H.S. Mudd.  Forty-eight students and seven faculty who shared the dream of starting a technical college that would emphasize the humanistic aspects of technology were on hand when the school opened its doors.   By the time the TRI Charter was signed two years later, 284 students were enrolled in classes and faculty numbered 43.

HSM Institute became Sutonia College in 77 AT and it now has more than 1,800 full-time graduate and undergraduate students at its physical campus on Amanra, and another 6,700 virtual students, including part-time and continuing-education students.
